Summer Camp Information - 2008
Summer Camps are open to anyone who seriously intends to audition for The University of Arizona Drumline for the following Fall season. All those who are interested are invited to attend. High school seniors are encouraged to attend!
The camps will cover how we do things at the UA and why we do them. Starting from the fundamentals of drumming to the UA's approach to playing marching percussion; the camps serve to better prepare you, and thereby increasing your chances, for a successful audition for the UA Drumline. The camps are open to all. Music majors, non-music majors, math majors, business majors, non-majors, high school seniors, even people who have never drummed before are welcome!
There are only two requirements for being eligible for the camps:
- You can read basic rhythms (emphasis on 16th note based rhythms)
- You are serious about and will be auditioning for the UA Drumline for the upcoming Fall 2008 season
Non-returning members of the 2007 UA Drumline are not eligible to attend as per requirement #2.

Anyone who is interested in participating in the UA Drumline Summer Camps must contact Saul Aguilar at dci9497@yahoo.com prior to the first camp. This is to ensure that there is enough music to hand out and equipment to go around.
For those of you who are planning on auditioning for cymbals it is very important that you attend the April 26th and 27th camp since that will be the only introduction to the technique before auditions in August. Mike Talerico will be on tour this summer, so he will not be attending any of the other camps. What we are looking for in the long run are people who adapt very well to new things, are positive about it, and have a deep understanding of 16th note and triplet timing. Timing is important both musically and visually and if you are someone who typically struggles with timing you will want to start working on that now.
All those that have contacted Saul will receive an email with detailed information about the camp. Everyone must show up at least half an hour prior to start time on Saturday, April 26th at Room J underneath the football stadium. If you do not know where this is located please note that in your initial email to Saul.
The UA Drumline Staff is looking forward to helping everyone get their chops up and answer any questions you are prepared to ask! The first camp is right around the corner and it's going to be great!
