Academic Student Progress

Undergraduate Class Standing:

A student's class standing is based on the number of units a student has earned, including transfer credit accepted by the University of Arizona.

In the College of Fine Arts, the class standing thresholds are:

Class	Units
Freshman	1-24 units
Sophomore	25-55 units
Junior	56-86 units
Seniors	87 + units

Full-time Status

Full-time status for an undergraduate student varies with the college and study program, but ordinarily requires a load of at least 12 units per semester. Full-time status for graduate students is more widely variable, depending upon assistantship or associateship duties and the composition of the individual student's program. Students in doubt about their standing should check with the their college dean's office.

Academic Distinction

The University of Arizona awards academic distinction honors, based on a student's completion of certain academic success standards. Semester awards are given when students have completed all course work for which they registered.

Categories include:

• Dean's List with Distinction: 15 graded units with a semester grade point average of 4.0.
• Dean's List: 15 graded units with a semester grade point average of 3.5-3.999.
• Honorable Mention: 12 graded units with a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Academic success is recognized each year at the College of Fine Arts' Honors Convocation. At this ceremony in October, academic-year awards are given when students have completed all course work for which they registered.

Categories include:

• Highest Academic Distinction: 30 graded units with an academic year grade point average of 4.0.
• Academic Distinction: 30 graded units with an academic year grade point average of 3.5-3.999.

Academic Probation

Students who earned less than a 2.0 cumulative grade point average are placed on academic probation. If a student has been on academic probation for two or more semesters, the student is subject to academic disqualification from the University of Arizona. Students who feel they are not performing well academically should see their academic advisor without delay.

Readmits

Students Who Left in Good Standing
Students who left in good standing will be readmitted to the degree program they left if they have not been gone more than two (2) years. Students returning after more than two (2) years will need approval from the major advisor.

Students who left in good standing and wish to change their major upon returning must meet the admission requirements for the desired degree program. Students returning after more than two (2) years will need approval from the major advisor.

Students Who Left While on Probation
Students who left on probation must first meet the College re-admission requirements of 24 units of "B" or better from another institution. Students will then be readmitted to the program they left on a case-by-case basis.

Students who left on probation and wish to change their major upon returning must first meet the College re-admission requirements of 24 units of "B" or better from another institution. In addition, students must meet the admission requirements for the desired degree program. Students will then be readmitted to the new major on a case-by-case basis.

Students Who Were Disqualified
Students who were disqualified must first meet the College re-admission requirements of 24 units of "B" or better from another institution. Students will then be readmitted to the program they left on a case-by-case basis.

Students who were disqualified and wish to change their major upon returning must first meet the College re-admission requirements of 24 units of "B" or better from another institution. In addition, students must meet the admission requirements for the desired degree program. Students will then be readmitted to the new major on a case-by-case basis.
