What does an accordion cost?

The price of an accordion varies widely, whether the instrument is purchased new or used. New instruments are available at auctions on the Internet for a few hundred dollars. Conversely, a really fine accordion with all the bells and whistles can run up to $20,000. A custom-ordered accordion can even cost more than this.

The same may be said for used accordions. One can purchase a used accordion online for less than a hundred dollars. At times, however, one can find an accordion for $6,000 or more listed at online auctions.

So what is the cost? A quality accordion that is new will run between $6,000 and $10,000. Paying less than this is certainly possible but the quality may be poor. And there are undoubtedly bargains in "unrecognized" used accordions, but, generally, you get what you pay for. A good used accordion will run between $1,000 and $5,000, possibly more, depending on the brand and condition.

This 16.5" Guerrini accordion was purchased online for $1000. It is several years old and has a few cracks in its surface. The bellows and reeds are good and it responds musically. It has a variety of reed combinations and sounds very good in a solo setting or in an ensemble.
