Brief History

Fine Arts has been an important part of the University of Arizona from the very beginning. The second annual register, 1892-93, informs us that four Schools of Art (Music, Painting, Drawing, Elocution) "will be maintained, if enough encouragement be given in the number of pupils." According to unofficial records, Fine Arts was duly constituted as a College in 1934, and included the departments of Art, Dramatic Art, Speech, and the School of Music. Today the College of Fine Arts offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through the Schools of Art, Dance, Media Arts, Music, and Theatre Arts.
